ABSTRACT
Cognitive impairment is a common manifestation in patients with T2DM mellitus (T2DM). Ginsenoside Rg1 (GRg1) the main active substance extracted from ginseng or Panax notoginseng. was induced by feeding rats high-sugar and high-fat diet combined low-dose intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ, 35 mg/kg) on an empty stomach. Subsequently, different concentrations GRg1 (25, 50, 100 mg/kg/d) were used to intervene for 8 weeks explore its therapeutic effects potential mechanisms cognitive rats. Our data suggested that administration improved insulin resistance, specifically manifesting reduction resistance index approximately 57.1 % high doses (100 mg/kg/d). Besides, it has been observed lower cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein 20–50 In addition, treatment dramatically spatial memory learning ability Furthermore, dose-dependently up-regulated ERKs phosphorylation blunted JNKs p38. also increased expression Bcl-2 but inhibited Bax Caspase 3 brain cortex hippocampus neurons. effectively improves mild inhibiting oxidative stress reducing apoptosis neurons cerebral hippocampus.
