ABSTRACT
The habit of areca nut chewing has been regarded as an etiological factor precancerous oral submucous fibrosis (OSF). In the present study, we aimed to evaluate anti-fibrosis effect honokiol, a polyphenolic component derived from Magnolia officinalis. cytotoxicity honokiol was tested using normal and fibrotic buccal mucosal fibroblasts (fBMFs) OSF tissues. Collagen gel contraction, Transwell migration, invasion, wound healing capacities were examined. Besides, expression TGF-β/Smad2 signaling well α–SMA type I collagen measured well. Honokiol exerted higher fBMFs compared cells. arecoline-induced myofibroblast activities, including contractility, cell motility all suppressed by treatment. addition, pathway downregulated along with lower in honokiol-receiving Our data suggest that may be promising compound alleviate progression fibrogenesis prevent transformation epithelium into cancer.
