ABSTRACT
The mining industry is closely related to economic development in many countries but also responsible for generating large amounts of waste materials. If not properly processed and/or stored, these residues can present environmental and social risks. Geopolymers are known their ability be used applications where ordinary Portland cement (OPC) commonly used. They some advantages over OPC, such as the use several forms precursor material, better heat fire resistance higher strength. In this study, one-part geopolymer pastes were synthesised with different iron ore tailings (IOT) evaluate IOT fillers. Three IOTs studied verify effects fillers cements. one highest compressive strength was chosen evaluated impact increasing proportion tailings. tailings-metakaolin-based cements cured at room temperature had assessed after 1, 3,7 14 days. Particle size distribution, X-ray diffraction, fluorescence infrared spectrometry analysed. It seen that part iron, originally from tailings, reacted seems have been incorporated into tetrahedral bonds. achieved maximum around 50 MPa. proved satisfactorily filler, which desirable tailing management practices.
