ABSTRACT
The C content has a significant effect on the microstructure especially surface gradient structure of nitrogen-containing cermets. In literature, how affects cermets is unclear. Combining thermodynamic calculations and experimental techniques, series (Ti, Mo)(C, N)–Ni Ti(C, N)–Mo2C–Ni with different carbon contents were investigated experimentally. When sintering in denitrification atmosphere, binder phase shows trend high concentration low core concentration, thickness Ni-rich layer decreases increase content, (Mo, Ti)C precipitates cermet. results XRD specific saturation magnetization data indicate decrease solubility alloy elements Ti Mo Ni content. formation mechanism at was discussed. Due to coupling Ti–C, inhibits local activity atoms, weakens driving force for migration core, thinner layer. Moreover, amalgamation growth hard particles number bright inclusions N)-based can also be reduced
