ABSTRACT
The influence of V content on the morphology, structure, hardness (H) and reduced Young's modulus (E), adhesion, oxidation resistance TiAlSiN coatings is investigated. were produced by DC reactive magnetron sputtering, with increasing contents from 0, 4.8 11.0 at.%. All exhibit a fcc type structure. coating at.% shows highest values H E, whereas are similar for reference V. adhere well to substrates show dense compact columnar growth extending adhesive interlayer top surface coatings. dynamic thermal gravimetric curves reveal that additions decreases onset point significantly degrades A dual oxide layer formed coating: an outer porous Ti–Al–O rich plate-like features top, which classified TiO2 (rutile anatase) Al2O3 phases, inner Ti–Si–O Al depletion identified as mixture amorphous Si–O protective oxides. diffusion governs process V-containing coatings, i.e. concentration leads disrupt formation continuous layers easily.
