ABSTRACT
The rapid evolution of neuromodulation techniques includes an increasing amount research into stimulation paradigms that are guided by patients' neurophysiology, to increase efficacy and responder rates. Treatment personalisation target engagement have shown be effective in fields such as Parkinson's disease, closed-loop been successfully implemented cardiac defibrillators. Promising avenues being explored for physiologically informed psychiatry. Matching the frequency individual brain rhythms has some promise transcranial magnetic (TMS). phase those may further enhance neuroplasticity, instance when combining TMS with electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings. Resting-state EEG event-related potentials useful demonstrate connectivity between sites connected areas. These available today psychiatrist diagnose underlying sleep disorders, epilepsy, or lesions contributing factors cause depression. technologies also assessing patient's network status prior deciding on treatment options. Ongoing using invasive recordings allow future identification mood biomarkers structure. A core limitation is biomarker currently limited internal heterogeneity psychiatric disorders according current DSM-based classifications. New approaches developed soon validated. Finally, care must taken incorporating capabilities systems, ensuring safe operation system understanding physiological dynamics. Neurophysiological tools rapidly evolving will likely define next generation therapies.
