ABSTRACT
To describe the experience of food insecurity and access among women in northern New England during perinatal period.Qualitative descriptive.Hospital system England.Twelve pregnant two who gave birth.We interviewed participants pregnancy postpartum period about their experiences insecurity, including screening, willingness ability to programs, extent which needs were met through referrals. We analyzed interview transcripts identify themes related participants' insecurity; support, screening referral; opportunities for improvement current support interventions.Most accepted being screened satisfied with distributed care settings. Food consistently occurred alongside general financial strain, housing transportation needs, affirmed interconnectedness social determinants health. Other co-occurring risks included intimate partner violence, substance use, mental health challenges. receipt was facilitated by team members knowledgeable distribution programs. Barriers challenges enrolling public assistance poor awareness available resources, persistence unpredictability stigma. identified three distinct that described period: Experience Being Screened Insecurity, Intersecting Social Needs, Accessing Resources.These findings can be used inform comprehensive programs reflect values period. Interventions screen intervene after align quality standards The Joint Commission should integrated into nursing practice.
