ABSTRACT
In people aged ≥ 60 years, does a combined physical activity and fall prevention intervention affect mobility-related goal attainment? Does the also improve rates, daily steps, proportion of meeting guidelines, quality life, mood, fear falling, mobility limitation? Randomised trial with concealed allocation, intention-to-treat analysis assessor blinding. One hundred thirty-one living in community years. The experimental group received one physiotherapist visit, fortnightly telephone-based health coaching, pedometer, tailored advice, brochure. control same Primary outcomes were attainment (Goal Attainment Scale) objectively measured (accelerometer counts per minute) at 6 12 months. Secondary falls, other measures, mobility. Participants had mean age 71 years (SD 6.5) 31 (24%) fallen past year. reported significantly better months compared to controls (OR 2.0, 95% CI 1.1 3.7) but this was not maintained 1.1, 0.6 2.1). Physical different between groups (MD 13 counts/minute, −98 124) or 56 −14 125). There no significant between-group differences secondary outcomes. A associated higher impact on future investigation larger is warranted. ACTRN12614000016639.
