ABSTRACT
Extreme rainfall significantly threatens the safety of landfill cover system, especially under humid climates. This study aims to provide design recommendations for a sustainable system consisting low-permeability soil layer underlying two-layer capillary barrier First, numerical back-analysis was conducted verification against series flume model tests. Then, parametric performed investigate effects inclination angle, particle size and thickness on lateral diversion length (DL) three-layer 100-year return period The results show that water DL can be greatly enhanced by increasing angle from 3° 18°. Moreover, bottom with coarser d10 more susceptible impact heavy rainfall, while this alleviated layer. A dimensionless number, defined as ratio layer, is proposed designing To preserve maximum DL, it suggested number should larger than 95 110 events 50-year periods climates, respectively.
