ABSTRACT
Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is seen in 25% of the general population but up to 50% patients ≤60 years old with cryptogenic strokes. Trials have shown that PFO closure vs medical therapy reduces risk future may cause atrial fibrillation (AF), prior trials reporting an incidence 2% 11.9%. However, true AF after unknown due limitations studies for long-term monitoring.
