ABSTRACT
Prolonged exposure of free radicals, or known as reactive oxygen species (ROS), in hepatic cells may cause oxidative stress. Without proper treatment, it can induce liver injury and fatal disease, including cirrhosis. Red betel (Piper crocatum Ruiz Pav) is one Indonesia's medicinal plants that has been to exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory activities. This study aims determine hepatoprotective effect red leaves extract (RBLE) towards injury.Hydrogen peroxide-induced HepG2 were used model·H2O2-induced treated with 25 µg/mL 100 RBLE. Several parameters observed, TNF-α level through ELISA; necrotic, apoptotic, dead, live cells; ROS flow cytometry analysis; GPX gene expression qPCR.The showed treatment RBLE able decrease level; necrotic death percentage; well level. On the other hand, increase apoptotic expression. Low concentration (25 µg/mL) exhibited stronger activity was resulted lower switched cell pathway from necrosis apoptosis shown by shifted percentage. lead ultimately improve Meanwhile high (100 antioxidant properties indicated higher expression.Overall, this demonstrate model its
