Impact of clinical pharmacist-led diabetes management clinic on health outcomes at an academic hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: A prospective cohort study

ABSTRACT
Diabetes prevalence is estimated to reach 20.6% by 2030. Studies have illustrated main reasons for uncontrolled patients and concluded: low level of awareness, limited access healthcare providers, lack cooperation between different disciplines. The role pharmacists has been proven improve patient-related outcomes, including an improvement in HgA1C readings 0.54% 1.6%.This study was conducted evaluate diabetes-related health outcomes a pharmacist-led diabetes clinic terms HgbA1C level, guideline-recommended routine screenings, medication adherence, biomarkers other comorbidities.A prospective cohort from August 2017 until July 2018 at academic hospital. providing the service half-day per week. included all adult diabetic referred had -at least- three 3-month apart follow-up visits with no exclusions. baseline assessments receiving care performed using blood pressure, lipid thyroid panel, eye foot examinations, preventive measures, adherence. results were compared thereafter. A descriptive analysis used report differences intervals. Main outcome measure: (a) Reduction HgbA1c levels, (b) intervention made clinical outpatient setting.The thirty-five patients. mean ± SD age 56 10 years old.
