Seagrass ecosystem contributions to people's quality of life in the Pacific Island Countries and Territories

ABSTRACT
Seagrass ecosystems provide critical contributions (goods and perceived benefits or detriments) for the livelihoods wellbeing of Pacific Islander peoples. Through in-depth examination provided by seagrass across Island Countries Territories (PICTs), we find a greater quantity in Near Oceania (New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago Solomon Islands) western Micronesian (Palau Northern Marianas) regions; indicating stronger coupling between human society ecosystems. We also many non-material historically have been overlooked under-appreciated decision-makers. Closer cultural connections likely motivate guardianship communities to mitigate local anthropogenic pressures. Regional comparisons shed light on general specific aspects importance Islanders, which are forming evidence-based policy management ensure long-term resilience they provide.
