ABSTRACT
In the course of service, integral-forming aluminum foam sandwich (IFAFS) needed to bear three-point bending loads in different directions, however, its deformation mechanism and failure modes were still unclear. this work, performances IFAFS under flatwise edgewise conditions investigated by experiment, in-situ micro X-ray tomography digital volume correlation (DVC) calculation. The results showed that performance was more stable condition, with decrease span length presented three oblique core shear, asymmetric symmetrical surface fracture. addition, porosity mutation a significant reason for crack initiation, optimizing pore homogeneity important improve predictability location. Different strengthening effect structure anisotropy internal evolutions caused strain vortex two main reasons which lead difference solid panel directions. Connection pre-existing micropores dimple-like generated during process leads IFAFS. key factors further optimize homogenize distribution
