ABSTRACT
In thick unidirectional glass fiber-reinforced composites, the out-of-plane embedded wrinkle flaws have a major impact on compressive failure, which should be taken into account and assessed during design, manufacturing, inspection phases. The coupons with wrinkles of various severities were manufactured tested. deformation region was captured by Digital Image Correlation (DIC). As angle increased, failure stress decreases modulus does not change significantly, while amplitude has negative effect both elastic modulus. linear texture image regression approach is used to for path fibers. high-fidelity three-dimensional finite element (FE) models considering real paths fibers are established. To reveal interplay severity parameters behavior progressive damage analyses cohesive elements also incorporated. Compared experiments, FE studies accurately identify dominant modes values parameters.
