ABSTRACT
Glycans are one of the fundamental biopolymers encountered in living systems. Compared to polynucleotide and polypeptide biosynthesis, polysaccharide biosynthesis is a uniquely combinatorial process which interdependent enzymes with seemingly broad specificities contribute. The resulting intracellular cell surface, secreted glycans play key roles health disease, from embryogenesis cancer progression. study modulation organismal biology aided by small molecule inhibitors involved glycan biosynthesis. In this review, we survey arsenal currently available inhibitors, focusing on agents have been independently validated diverse We highlight utility these drawbacks their use, emphasizing need for innovation basic research as well therapeutic applications.
