ABSTRACT
Abstract Crystal structures of new tetrahalocuprate salts of α-isosparteine [ ( C 15 H 28 N 2 ) 2 + x CuBr 4 2 - x H 2 O ] , 1 and [ ( C 15 H 28 N 2 ) 2 + x CuCl 4 2 - x H 2 O ] , 2, as well as (-)sparteine [ ( C 15 H 28 N 2 ) 2 + x CuCl 4 2 - x H 2 O ] , 3, were determined by X-ray diffraction. All three compounds crystallize as monohydrates and build identical hydrogen bonded chains involving water and tetrahalocuprate units, but differ in the configuration and conformation of the doubly protonated cationic species, and the way they pack in the crystal lattice, and interact with the complex counter anions. The IR, UV–vis, MS and EPR spectra were collected for 1 and 2. The magnetic properties of new compounds have been determined.
