ABSTRACT
Urban floods induced by the compound effects of climate change and rapid urbanisation are one key challenges facing many Chinese cities. In 2013, China initiated Sponge City Program (SCP) to address this issue via constructing/restoring green-blue infrastructure as Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). Various green blue spaces have been integrated into traditional grey facilities mitigate urban floods, provide recreational venues, enhance natural aesthetics landscapes. While housing development has actively included in NBS provision, it remains unclear whether how homebuying decisions might be influenced implementation under framework Program. Our study uses Guiyang, pilots selected central government for construction "Sponge City" implementing NBS. In-depth semi-structured interviews (n=25) were used examine multiple benefits generated newly established (sponge) would affect residents' home-purchasing preferences/decisions. We found that provision a facility, is part SCP or not, significantly influences homebuyers' choice. This sheds additional light on nexus end users (homebuyers) (developers) Program, generating practical implications stakeholder engagement achieve sustainable urbanization.
