ABSTRACT
Due to the severe impacts of recent earthquakes, use seismic isolation is paramount for safety nuclear structures. The diversity observed in events demands ongoing research analyze devastating attributes involved, and hence enhance sustainability base-isolated power plants. This study reports performance a seismically-isolated reactor containment building (NRCB) under strong short-period ground motions (SPGMs) long-period (LPGMs). United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission-based design response spectrum plants stipulated as reference motion selection. Within period range(s) interest, spectral matching selected records with target ensured using spectral-compatibility approach. NRC-compliant SPGMs LPGMs from mega-thrust Tohoku earthquake are used obtain structural NRCB. To account lack earthquakes low-to-moderate seismicity zones gap artificial synthesis records, wavelet-decomposition based autoregressive moving average modeling generation real performed. Based on analysis results simulated versus LPGMs, NRCBs discussed suggestions future provisions.
