ABSTRACT
Spontaneous transient states were recently identified by functional magnetic resonance imaging and magnetoencephalography in healthy subjects. They organize coordinate neural activity brain networks. How spontaneous are altered abnormal conditions is unknown. Here, we conducted a state analysis on resting-state electroencephalography (EEG) source space developed transfer to patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC). uncovered different coordination patterns, including spatial power temporal dynamics, spectral shifts, connectivity construction varies at potentially very fast (millisecond) time scales, groups levels: subjects, minimally conscious (MCS), vegetative state/unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (VS/UWS). Machine learning based features reveal high classification accuracy between MCS VS/UWS. This study methodology EEG conditions. Findings correlate human suggest potential roles disease assessment.
