ABSTRACT
Effective cognitive training must improve cognition beyond the trained domain (show a transfer effect) and be applicable to dementia-risk populations, e.g., amnesic mild impairment (aMCI). Theories suggest should target processes that 1) show robust engagement, 2) are domain-general, 3) reflect long-lasting changes in brain organization. Brain regions connect many different networks (i.e., high participation coefficient; PC) known support integration. This capacity is relatively preserved aMCI, required across wide range of domains, trait-like. In 49 individuals with aMCI completed 6-week visual speed processing (VSOP) 28 active controls, enhancement PC was significantly more related working memory at global network levels VSOP compared particularly high-PC nodes. suggests enhancing integration may provide for developing effective training.
