ABSTRACT
Abstract New scintillation detectors are receiving special attention for their combination of improved energy resolution and high detection efficiency. This work focuses on the evaluation of the main characteristics of a 7 cm×7 cm Cerium Bromide (CeBr3) detector. Using a set of reference sources, the detector was characterized in terms of energy resolution and pulse linearity. Then, a numerical model of the detector has been created and Monte Carlo simulations have been used to obtain detection efficiencies for a number of sources, including contaminated material from steelworks.
