ABSTRACT
Abstract This paper compares design options for Elettra 2.0, the next generation, diffraction limited light source to replace present Elettra, the third generation Italian light source. All Elettra-like lattices based on up to 10-bend achromats were considered. This analysis discusses the most promising options in the context of maximizing scientific opportunities for a broad spectrum of users while managing technical risk and cost of the upgrade to acceptable levels. The time horizon for the evaluation of the scientific utility of Elettra 2.0 is ten to twenty years.
