ABSTRACT
The response of a position-sensitive Li-glass scintillator detector being developed for thermal-neutron detection with 6 mm position resolution has been investigated using collimated beams thermal neutrons. was moved perpendicularly through the neutron in 0.5 to 1.0 horizontal and vertical steps. Scintillation detected an 8 × pixel multi-anode photomultiplier tube on event-by-event basis. In general, several pixels registered large signals at each neutron-beam location. number registering signal above set threshold investigated, maximization single-hit efficiency over largest possible area as primary goal. At ∼50% mean full-deposition peak, ∼80% events were single pixel, resulting effective ∼5 X Y. Lower thresholds generally resulted demonstrating higher multiplicities, but these could also be localized resolution.
