ABSTRACT
Stable propagation of high charge electron bunches through long, tens of meters, dielectric lined waveguides is critical for practical realisations of future dielectric wakefield accelerators. This can be disrupted by dipole and quadrupole wakefields that adversely affect transverse beam dynamics leading to beam quality deterioration and beam losses. We present an experimental study of transverse beam dynamics in planar and circular dielectric wakefield structures. The effects of both dipole and quadrupole wakefields on beam stability were investigated. This study was, in part, motivated by benchmarking our PIC simulation code; the majority of results showed good agreement with experimental data and any observed discrepancies were investigated.
