ABSTRACT
Abstract The nonlinear optical properties of 5-oxo-4,5-dihydroindeno [1,2-b] pyrans which belongs to indenopyrans family have been investigated by single-beam transmission techniques. Using both the z-scan and the moire deflectrometry techniques, we measured the nonlinear refractive index in order of 10 −7 cm 2 /W with negative sign and nonlinear absorption coefficient in order of 10 −3 cm/W. This molecule exhibits the strong two-photon absorption and therefore, the third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility, ∣ χ (3) ∣ = 1.0 × 10 −5 esu was measured for this material.
