ABSTRACT
Since the 1980s, industrialization and urbanization of Beijing area has entered a period high-speed growth. This paper asks question: How have such great changes in urban land-use over past decades impacted precipitation? In this study, we investigate analyze effects on summer precipitation using numerical modeling approaches. Applying mesoscale atmospheric model METRAS, determine impact surface cover 13 heavy events. We implement five idealized scenarios: Reference scenario, No-urban High-building Urban-expand No-vegetation scenario. There is nearly no difference mean sum across all simulated rain events between urban-scenarios rural-scenario. find only some single cases. conclude does effect local Beijing; it reduces rainfall increases downwind city. cases, larger percentage sealed could give rise to heavier or extreme And pattern significantly impacts intensity. Increased size density may speed up clouds while increased height disrupt bifurcate clouds. Our results offer new viewpoint further study (UIP). The are important for sustainable harmonious development economy, society, environment as well other cities with rapid urbanization.
