ABSTRACT
The fourth generation of synchrotron radiation sources, commonly referred to as the Free Electron Laser (FEL), provides an intense source brilliant X-ray beams enabling investigation matter at atomic scale with unprecedented time resolution. These sources require use conventional linear accelerators providing high electron beam performance. achievement chirped pulse amplification allowing lasers be operated Terawatt range, opened way for Plasma Acceleration (LPA) technique where energy bunches current can produced within a very short centimeter-scale distance. Such advanced acceleration concept is great interest qualified by FEL application compact light sources. We explore in this paper what LPA specificities imply on design undulator, part gain medium. First, and state-of-art are presented showing different operation regimes parameters likely achieved. scaling laws discussed afterwards better understand laser or plasma have adjusted order improve quality. secondly starting spontaneous emission, followed configurations, transport undulator finally correction terms case. Then, types undulators that implemented based analyzed. Finally, examples relevant experiments reported describing beamline, presenting emission characteristics achieved so far future prospects.
