ABSTRACT
A further chemical investigation of the butanol extract leaves from South African medicinal plant Sutherlandia frutescens led to isolation eight previously unreported saponins (1−8), together with known sutherlandiosides A−D. Their structures were established by spectroscopic (1D and 2D NMR) analyses, CD, optical rotation, mass spectrometry, as well conversions. The isolates screened for their cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 human breast cancer cell line, although no significant was observed. In addition chemophenetic markers this genus, i.e. cycloartane glycosides, present work also reports on first an oleanan-type saponin forming important fingerprint composition plant.
