ABSTRACT
Prevention of skin cancer involves decreasing exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) and avoiding sunburn, especially early in life. Individuals living urban versus rural areas, as defined by the Rural Urban Commuting Area (RUCA) code classification, have different risks for cancer, likely due differing patterns outdoor activities preventive behaviors employed when outdoors. However, few studies examined differences between individuals this among both adults children. This study compared activities, sun protection strategies, tanning behaviors, sunburn occurrence children (n = 97 dyads) settings a Western region United States. The relationships were groups. Analyses Barnard's Exact Test logistic generalized estimating equations models. areas reported strategies used, activities. more commonly use certain forms protection, such sunscreen shade, whereas long pants skirt wearing common areas. than those engage farm work, yard youth sports. Gender these outcomes also identified. Skin interventions could be tailored families target situations which sunburns are occur.
