Self-assembled arene ruthenium metalla-assemblies

ABSTRACT
Abstract Cationic arene ruthenium metalla-assemblies of the general formula [Ru 4 ( p -cymene) 4 ( N , N ′-L) 2 (ox) 2 ][CF 3 SO 3 ] 4 ( 1 – 4 ) and [Ru 6 ( p -cymene) 6 ( N , N ′, N ″-L) 2 (ox) 3 ][CF 3 SO 3 ] 6 ( 5 ) were prepared by the reaction of the dinuclear ruthenium complex, [( p -cymene) 2 Ru 2 Cl 2 (ox) 2 ] ( 6 ) with a range of linear, bent bis-pyridine and trigonal tris-pyridine amide donor ligands ( 7 – 11 ) in methanol in the presence of AgO 3 SCF 3 . These new metalla-assemblies ( 1 – 5 ) were fully characterized by analytical techniques including elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, 1 H, 13 C NMR spectroscopy, and HR-ESI-MS spectrometry. A UV–Vis study was also carried out for the entire range of metalla-assemblies.
