Major Depressive Disorder during Teenage Pregnancy: Socio-demographic, Obstetric and Psychosocial Correlates

ABSTRACT
To describe the prevalence of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) during pregnancy in teenage mothers and to assess its association with socio-demographic characteristics, obstetric history psychosocial variables. A cross-sectional study was conducted a sample pregnant teenagers enrolled national public health system urban area Pelotas, southern Brazil. MDD assessed Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview, Abuse Assessment Screen used identify physical abuse within last 12 months pregnancy, social support Medical Outcomes Survey Social Support Scale. Forty-three (4.94%) potential subjects refused participate, resulting 828 total participants. The 17.8%, 9.2% reported they had been subjected violence months, while 5.8% suffered mean (SD) overall score 87.40 (11.75). After adjustment, we found highest incidence adolescents less than 8 years education, followed by those previous episodes lower support. is relatively common condition appears be more prevalent young who are both socioeconomically psychosocially underprivileged.
