ABSTRACT
Vinasse, the liquid waste from bottom of a bioethanol distillation column, is potential feedstock for biogas production due to its high organic content. Vinasse discharged at temperature, i.e., 60–80 °C. Therefore, thermophilic anaerobic digestion more efficient directly treat vinasse loading rate (OLR). This study investigated performance on sugarcane inoculated with acclimated digested cow manure (DCM). The experiment was run varied OLRs (1,2; 1.8 and 2.4 gCOD.L−1.day−1). process carried out in continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) controlled pH (7 ± 0.5) oxidation-reduction potential/ORP (−500 10 mV). During 111 days experiment, we monitored volatile fatty acids (VFA), total chemical oxygen demand (tCOD), soluble (sCOD), as well methane rates, evaluate performance. experimental data were fitted Anaerobic Digestion Model 1 (ADM 1) using AQUASIM® software. categorized three stages observed this study: stabilization, enrichment, steady-state. kinetic parameters, coefficient affinity (KS,ac, KS,pro) specific growth (km,ac km, pro), obtained fitting. good fit ADM highlighted flexibility represent dynamic system simultaneous changes both variables microbial composition. fitting gave consistently low Ks values lower OLR 0.2 gCOD. L−1.day−1 up higher L−1.day−1. values, which less than 1/1000 constants (km), indicated that combined effects condition composition increased microbial-substrate (showed by KS) essentially (addressed km). In addition, inhibitory not all tested study.
