ABSTRACT
Variable renewable technologies are characterized by a large degree of intermittency due to their natural variability, creating need for exploiting range sources. In this context, the use energy storage systems is often proposed. There different ways store and overproduced electricity from these technologies. This paper aims evaluate global warming emissions savings obtained storing surplus variable in Spanish market later using it end applications, both present day 2030 time horizon. First, review life cycle assessments published scientific literature performed. Then, selected values review, adapted emission intensity stored Spain, used compute GHG uses. Results show that highest benefits terms avoidance would be transport applications power sector. However, as mix becomes decarbonized, batteries behind meter lead no avoidance.
