ABSTRACT
Remote sensing of spectrally active Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) in the gulf water an arid region is important to understand spatial and temporal variations phytoplankton biomass water. This study characterizes spectral absorption Chl-a detects maps Al Arish–Al Ghariyah coastal northern Qatar using data Hyperion EO-1, MultiSpectral Instrument (MSI) Sentinel-2, Operational Land Imager (OLI) Landsat-8 satellites. The image spectra showed band absorptions near 450 475 nm blue around 640, 730, 760, 830 red region. analysis by linear unmixing (LSU) method occurrence very shallow mapping Arish–Al was carried out MSI OLI NDCI, 2BDA, 3BDA, FLH violet algorithms, which concentrations distributions performance algorithms studied WorldView-3 data, provided R2 values 60% best suitability NDCI algorithm map concentration Chl-a. All results were validated field measurements, in-situ laboratory analyses samples. measurements poor confirmed imagery results. remote with physical chemical parameters samples allowed us assess evaluates sensor's capability applications satellite Gulf waters
