ABSTRACT
Peer Reviewed
A powder metallurgy route has been used to fabricate Mg-Zn-Y alloys reinforced by quasicrystalline particles. Rapidly solidified powders of MgZn2.1Y0.26 and MgZn3.3Y0.43 were extruded in the temperature range 260-400 °C. As the extrusion temperature decreases, the yield stress increases due to grain size refinement. The MgZn3.3Y0.43 alloy showed a yield stress of 410 MPa with a 12% elongation. © 2009 Acta Materialia Inc.
