ABSTRACT
As the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) accelerates, efficient management end-of-life lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries becomes a pressing concern. This case study investigates sustainable second life approaches for Li-ion within leading manufacturing company in heavy-duty vehicle industry. Employing an exploratory methodology, evaluates three distinct circularity applications: remanufacturing, repurposing, and reusing. Based on financial model sustainability metrics, remanufacturing emerged as most economically viable environmentally strategy company. The also explores supplementary approaches, such repurposing used smaller power applications reusing them large-scale Energy Storage Systems (ESS). Regulatory inconsistencies battery are identified significant barrier to widespread implementation. concludes by advocating multi-stakeholder ecosystem approach calls establishment universal regulations streamline batteries.
