ABSTRACT
Modern patients use the internet more frequently for their health information. Our aim was to assess quality and readability of online patient education materials relating revision knee arthroplasty. We hypothesised that this information would be too difficult read average a lesser than desired.A search top 50 results on 3 engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo) completed (MeSH "revision arthroplasty", replacement"). Readability these websites calculated using specialised website, www.readable.com produce scores (Gunning-Fog (GF), Flesch Reading Ease (FRE), Flesch-Kincaid Grade (FKG). Quality assessed Journal American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmark criteria Health On Net (HON) code toolbar extension.89 unique were identified. Mean FRE 44.01 ± 11.05. The mean GF 12.01 2.94. FKG level 10.06 1.95. As per score, no webpage pitched at or below sixth grade reading level. index identified only (3.4%) 6th most webpages (n = 58, 65.2%) found themselves in 10th above. Four (4.5%) displayed HONcode certificate. However, all had expired. Most 34, 38.2%) didn't meet any JAMA criteria.The is high low quality. Given what we know about levels literacy relationship with outcomes, it vital address deficiencies promptly.
