Successful megaprosthesis in a nearly amputated lower extremity after crush injury: A case report and literature review

ABSTRACT
Crush injury is one of the most challenging decisions for a surgeon to decide whether proceed with an amputation or salvage limb. We presented 24-year-old man who complained having suffered crushed thigh 12 h before admission hospital. The patient was driving truck and hit iron bridge barrier, which penetrated his left thigh. patient's foot cold, pallid, pulseless, MESS score 11. femur x-ray showed displaced fracture associated 15 cm bone defect. diagnosed crush on vascular compromise. performed proximal femoral megaprosthesis lower extremity, After sixth year's follow-up, it shows good outcome increased quality life this patient. In addition, there improvement in Harris Hip Score EQ5D score. Megaprosthesis used treat revealed functional outcomes despite A multi-professional approach essential decision-making regarding limb rather than use
