Trends in firearm production and firearm deaths in U.S. youth

ABSTRACT
Firearms are now the leading cause of death for U.S. children and teens ages 0-19. The Department Justice Bureau Alcohol, Tobacco, Explosives (ATF) reported data in 2022 on firearm production, specific types calibers. We hypothesized there would be a correlation between production deaths nonfatal injuries youth.All injury rates youth 0-19 were extracted from Centers Disease Control Prevention 2001 to 2020. Firearm 2020 was ATF Commerce Report overall by weapon type pistol caliber. Relationships evaluated using correlational analyses.Firearm increased 48.2% 69.2%, respectively, 265% 1298% 9 mm pistols. There no total manufacturing or (all r < 0.28). Pistol caliber (25 mm) associated with > 0.55).While not related injuries, except suicides, strong relationships youth. preventable; we must invest stronger information systems that track details firearms linked injuries.
