4-(2-Pyridylazo)-resorcin bildet mit Gallium in schwach saurem Medium stufenweise zwei Chelate GaRH+ und GaR2−, die sich gut als Grundlage fur eine empfindliche spektralphotometrische Bestimmung von Gallium (≤ 0,1 μg Ga/ml) bei pH 3,5–5,0 oder in Formiatpuffer bei pH 4 eignen. Der Einflus einiger Ionen, Puffer und der Ionenstarke der Losung auf die Bestimmung wird diskutiert.
