ABSTRACT
Objectives: Rapid and accurate screening for carbapenemase-producing organism (CPOs) in hospitalized patients is critical infection control prevention. The Xpert Carba-R assay designed rapid detection of CPOs, but 1 usually conducted only sample. We evaluated a pooling strategy CPO using the assay. Methods: Swab sets containing 2 swabs were collected from 415 unique at Peking University People’s Hospital. One swab was used test, which 5 different mixed sample treatment solution. prevalence CPOs hospital (5.3%) predicted that 5:1 most economical. As reference method, other tested by culture sequencing. Results: Of samples, 383 negative test 31 positive. All samples Among positive identified strategy, 26 sequencing (including 24 with targeted gene double genes, NDM+/IMP+ VIM+/IMP+), negative. Overall, 198 tests study, 217 saved compared testing individually. efficiency 215%. overall sensitivity (95% CI, 0.840–1), specificity 0.987 0.968–0.995), accuracy 0.970–0.996), predictive value 0.838 0.655–0.939), 0.988–1). Conclusions: showed good potential significantly lower cost.
