ABSTRACT
Many epidemiological and experimental studies have suggested an important role for dietary fibre (DF) of cereals in the prevention colon cancer. The objective present study was to explain effects DF barley Rihane (BR) on azoxymethane (AOM)-induced aberrant crypt foci (ACF) colonic bacterial diversity rats. Following acclimatisation period, rats were divided into four groups fed a control (C) diet or containing 30 % BR. content twice that C (total 8·69 15·24 BR diet). At 7 8 weeks age, received two successive subcutaneous injections AOM at 20 mg/kg body weight. 12 after first injection, ten animals from each group killed. decreased pH (P < 0·05) compared with diet. total number ACF observed considerably BR/AOM C/AOM 0·05). Comparison similarity coefficients showed variability microbiota species between different groups. In addition, we inter-individual within same group. This affected by AOM. results show bifidobacteria numbers lower those However, enterobacteria increased reduced incidence AOM-induced biodiversity.
