ABSTRACT
The objective of the present study was to evaluate effects fibre source on intestinal mucosal barrier function in weaning piglets. A total 125 piglets were randomly allotted basis their body weight and litters one five experimental diets, i.e. a control diet without (CT), diets which expanded maize replaced by 10 % (MF), soyabean (SF), wheat bran (WBF) or pea (PF). water fed ad libitum for 30 d. Piglets WBF PF had lower diarrhoea incidence compared with MF- SF-fed animals. higher ratio villous height:crypt depth ileum WBF-fed colonic goblet cells WBF- PF-fed observed CT-, In digesta, feeding resulted increased Lactobacillus counts Bifidobacterium colon. Lower Escherichia coli occurred colon than Tight junction protein (zonula occludens 1; ZO-1 ) Toll-like receptor 2 ( TLR2 gene mRNA levels up-regulated pigs WBF; however, MF SF raised IL-1α TNF-α levels. Furthermore, diamine oxidase activities, transforming growth factor-α, trefoil factor family MHC-II concentration when PF. conclusion, various sources different ileal function. Clearly, improved function, probably mediated changes microbiota composition concomitant expression.
