Prevalence of preventable ear disorders in over 15 000 schoolchildren in northern India

ABSTRACT
Abstract Background: There is a considerable scarcity of reliable population-based data on the prevalence preventable ear disorders in developing countries. This study was conducted to determine primary school children (aged 5 12 years) northern India. Method: A pro forma questionnaire used screen 15 718 New Delhi for disorders. Ear examinations were using otoscopy and impedance audiometry. Results: Impacted cerumen prevalent 7.93 per cent schoolchildren, 4.79 suffered from chronic otitis media 3.06 with effusion. Acute detected 0.65 foreign bodies found 0.34 children. Conclusion: Preventable diseases posed significant health problem among at level. Regular screening during this stage would ensure that their lives not affected by hearing impairments or Information gathered will help effective treatment prioritisation disorders, planning resource allocation.
