ABSTRACT
Abstract In this work, we evaluated the short time-induced oxidative stress–mediated rapid metabolic and physiological responses of resistant susceptible Sumatran fleabane [ Conyza sumatrensis (Retz.) E. Walker; syn.: Erigeron Retz.] to 2,4-D herbicide. Under fixed conditions (25 C 65 ± 5% relative humidity), assayed injury symptoms, chlorophyll a fluorescence, antioxidative systems biotypes both (1,005 g ae ha −1 ). 15 versus 25 temperatures light dark conditions, damage was on plants that received herbicide applications. The symptoms observed in 2,4-D–resistant biotype were necrosis leaves within 30 min, with reestablishment normal growth 1 2 wk after treatment. basal antioxidant enzyme activities superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase greater than biotype, although all enzymes generally did not differ between untreated treated biotype. showed great reduction (at 4 h application) photosynthetic electron transport chain performance index, while these changes only detected recovered from foliar application, controlled. production H O responsive temperature increased more rapidly one at C; however, there increase dependent C. , increases even under conditions. damage, possibly due leaf disruption, content compared
