ABSTRACT
With the energy transition looming, search for carbon-free fuels is imperative. Hydrogen an excellent alternative to fossil fuels, but there are significant challenges in transport and production. Ammonia hydrogen carrier with 17.6 wt % content zero carbon, infrastructure its production, storage, already well-established. Currently, ammonia decomposition only reacts at high temperatures; therefore, challenge optimize highly active catalysts low temperatures. This review will start from background of hydrogen, thoroughly introduce catalytic systems, mainly covering ruthenium-based, iron-based, cobalt-based, nickel-based, metal nitride, carbide, new alkali amide-imide analyze detail influence different catalyst preparation methods, supports, promoters, other methods on activity, discuss general rules optimizing efficiency catalysts. Moreover, reaction kinetics catalysts, including mechanisms, reaction-determining steps, activation energies, presented, future prospects proposed.
