ABSTRACT
Glucosinolates, their hydrolysis product concentrations, and the quinone reductase (QR) inducing activity of extracts leaf tissue were assayed from 39 arugula (Eruca sativa Mill.) accessions. Arugula accessions Mediterranean countries (n = 16; Egypt, Greece, Italy, Libya, Spain, Turkey) Northern Europe 2; Poland United Kingdom) higher in glucosinolates products, especially glucoraphanin sulforaphane, compared to those Asia 13; China, India, Pakistan) Middle East 8; Afghanistan, Iran, Israel). The QR was also highest European accessions, possibly due a significant positive correlation between sulforaphane (r 0.54). No nitrile products found, suggesting very low or no epithiospecifier protein these Broad sense heritability (H(2)) estimated be 0.91-0.98 for glucoinolates, 0.55-0.83 0.90 activity.
