ABSTRACT
A chemical investigation of a Chinese Pseudomonas aurantiaca strain has yielded new benzoquinone (4) and furanone (5), in addition to the known dialkylresorcinols 1 2. Extensive decomposition studies on major metabolite produced an additional derivative (6), hydroxyquinone (7), two unusual resorcinol dimers (8 9). Structures were elucidated by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy combination with tandem mass spectrometry analysis. These illustrate potential artifacts as source diversity. Compounds 2 showed moderate antibacterial activity against panel Gram-positive pathogens, while activities (4–9) reduced.
