ABSTRACT
Three new metal-free organic dyes with the [1]benzothieno[3,2-b]benzothiophene (BTBT) π-bridge, having structure donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A) and labeled as 19, 20 21, have been designed synthesized for application in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC). Once design of π-acceptor block was fixed, containing BTBT π-bridge cyanoacrylic group electron acceptor anchoring unit, we selected three donor units different electron-donor capacity, order to assemble chromophores high molar extinction coefficients (ε), whose absorption features well reflect good performance final DSSC devices. Starting 19 dye, which shows a coefficient ε over 14,000 M(-1) cm(-1) takes into account maximun at longer wavelength, substitution BFT unit BFA yields great enhancement absorptivity (molar > 42,000 cm(-1)), until reaching higher value (ε 69,000 cm(-1)) BFPhz unit. The general photovoltaic performances obtained highlight suitable properties electron-transport chromophore DSSC, making this very cheap easy synthesize molecule particularly attractive efficient low-cost
